The Virtual Grand Finale 2020

The Virtual Grand Finale of the TU/e Contest 2020 took place on 9 June 2020. After a lot of co-creation, networking, speed dates and workshops, the teams have been able to expand their knowledge and develop their ideas and prototypes enabling them to go from dream to demo. We are curious to see which teams will also be concurring world market!

During the Virtual Grand Finale, the Top 20 teams were able to pitch their project within one minute. 2 teams were chosen per category to participate in a Q&A with the Expert Jury. After some difficult questions, thoughtful answers and tough decisions. Robert-Jan Smits, the chairman of the jury, was able to announce the winners of the TU/e Contest 2020.

Besides the awards for each category, we had a few other awards to hand out!

Steunfonds Duurzamheid awarded team Climars Hero with an award worth €5,000,- for the most sustainable project. Climars Hero has developed an app that will be your guide and buddy on your way to a sustainable lifestyle, by participating in a 21-day long challenge around a sustainable topic. 

Team GOAL3 received the Wildcard for the Dutch 4TU Impact Challenge, allowing them to battle during the National Finale in Autumn 2020. GOAL 3 developed a high-quality patient monitoring system that enables clinicians to get an early diagnosis for acute illnesses like sepsis in low resource settings (low and middle-income countries).

ASML awarded team KEBL with the ASML Makers Award, worth €2,500,-. KEBL has created bike lights that can be charged in its small case which can be attached to a key chain. Like this they hope that more students and teenagers will make use of bike lights and reduce the risk of accidents.

Of course there were also winners for each category of the TU/e Contest. ELECTUDE won in category Ideation with their idea to create a learning platform that has a more immersive learning experience for both teachers and students. GOAL 3 won in category Prototyping with their patient monitoring system. Last but not least, FruitPunch AI won in category Student Teams with their online platform that unites a world-wide community of problem solvers by providing free challenge based AI education and solving challenges like the SDGs.
