Microplastic particles have been found everywhere - from the arctic to the alps. But how did they get there? While the plastic pollution of the oceans is a known problem, recent research showed that it can now also be found in the air - the air we breathe in everyday. This is a major cause that affects contamination in the food chain, health risks and environmental changes. But what is most concerning is that most people are not even aware of this problem.
We believe that this problem can not be solved by only filtering the plastic from the air, the population has to be educated on the problem and act according to it. We want to approach a solution by implementing design interventions in the city that filter these plastics particles and stimulate behavior change. We believe that intervening someone’s routine or someones surrounding Design Interventions get people's attention and make them reflect.
We want to help create a world where living species sustain and climate change is stopped. Our aim is to raise awareness and educate people about the problem of plastic in the air while improving the air quality. By doing so we hope to inspire people to change their behaviour towards plastic consumption and create more sustainable cities & communities (SDG 11). To be sure to create value for nature, we follow the Design to Biomimicry spiral.
